“Good Bones” for a Baby Jeep

The structure is solid. Jeep wouldn’t have it any other way. Built on Fiat’s small wide 4x4 platform, a well-cared-for used Jeep Renegade subcompact crossover maintains its muscle no what model year it is. Not a large SUV, the standard front-wheel drive Jeep Renegade carries a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 4,508 lbs. on a unibody platform and normal duty suspension, which improves performance, and even for a little guy, its stance is transparently strong and sturdy.

Four-wheel drive was optional on 2015 Sport, Latitude and Limited trims, and only the Trailhawk trim has standard four-wheel drive. One great thing about a used Jeep Renegade is that it looks like a Jeep. You easily recognize the signature seven-slotted vertical grille that supports its prominent round, “puppy dog” headlights. Typically low to the ground on 16-inch wheels, Trailhawk rose higher, at 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and also included skid plates and front and rear red tow hooks for a cooler, younger look.

Used, yes. Uncared for? Never

Used Jeep Renegade owners take pride in the cleanliness of their vehicles both inside and out. Cloth seats for five passengers are as comfortable in its seemingly spacious interior as newer models. Perhaps shape has something to do with it. Jeep’s “blocky” (or boxy) design creates suitable legroom in both rows, adding 18.5 cubic feet of storage capacity behind the rear seats. All told, that’s more than 50 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. All but base model front passenger seats fold to accommodate longer items. Limited trims included leather seat trim, heated front seats and steering wheel and leather-wrapped shifter.

Earlier Sport trims included AM/FM stereo with four-speakers and a 3.5-inch display. Latitude included a six-speaker Uconnect® 5.0 Am/FM with Bluetooth and SiriusXM capability. The leather-wrapped steering wheel held the auxiliary audio controls. The Trailhawk 4x4 includes cloth seats with red stitching. Optional navigation system comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen.

Jeep Keeps the “Rrrrr” in Renegade

With a choice of two 4-cylinder engines available for the Jeep Renegade, Sport and Latitude models come with the base turbocharged 1.4-liter engine delivering 160-hp@5500 rpm and 184 lb.-ft. of torque at @2500 rpm and manual transmission. Limited and Trailhawk models come with the same engine listed above or an optional, larger 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 180-hp@6400 rpm and 175 lb.-ft. of torque at 3900 rpm and six-speed transmission.

The used Jeep Renegade can tow up to 2,000 pounds with the 2.4-liter engine and 4WD. Towing is not recommended for 1.4-liter models.
